Kinsale Arts Week

Kinsale Arts Week

Kinsale, Co. Cork

Description

From July 9th to 17th, music fans will flock to Kinsale to get their fix at this year’s Arts Week. Famous for the Charles Fort Concerts, the Arts Week team have put together an eclectic line up with world class acts, supported by County Cork sensations – for a Local versus The World face off. These outdoor gigs held at a 17th century star fort by the sea make for a truly unforgettable experience.

Line Up

On Saturday July 9th, the only tribute band to be endorsed by Abba themselves will take to the stage. Waterloo was formed in 1996, in Stockholm, Sweden. They quickly became famous for their amazing ABBA-sound. Following their tour across Scandinavia, Belgium and Asia from 1998 – 2001, Waterloo went into collaboration with the London National Symphony Orchestra to create ABBA THE SHOW. Not only do the critics agree that Waterloo sound just like ABBA, but that they look like them too. From their costumes to stage sets this is one experience any ABBA fan will not want to miss.

Waterloo, will be supported by the Papa Zitas. Described as motown revitalised, this is a must for anyone who enjoys all the motown classics from The Supremes to The Four Tops.

One concert not to be missed is the amazing Nouvelle Vague . French band, Nouvelle Vague are led by musicians Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Their name is a play on words of "new wave" in French and "bossa nova" in Portuguese. They cover punk rock, post-punk and new wave songs as well as 1960s bossa nova style arrangements.

Nouvelle Vague will play alongside the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra on Wednesday July 13th.

On Saturday July 16th, The Undertones will bring their punk rock/new wave band which was formed in 1975 to Kinsale. Stopping off on their 35th anniversary tour, the band will be playing all of their greatest hits including Teenage Kicks.

Exit: Pursued by a Bear will be opening the show for the Undertones.

Free live music will play over both weekends thanks to Sounds on the Square. There will be music to suit all tastes including contemporary classical from 3epkano, who are also taking to the stage at this year’s Electric Picnic. The Rubberbandits will close Kinsale Arts Week in their own unique style – is that a horse outside?

Every member of the family will be catered for with great art, comedy, drama, kid’s activities and food events to choose from. Don’t forget Kinsale is famous for its great food and is the food capital of West Cork!
