Starting your tour upon arrival at Dublin Airport you will get a group transfer to your hotel between 7:00 am and 12:00 noon. If your flight arrives later than noon, transfer to the hotel is at your own expense. Your hotel for the night is the luxurious Clontarf Castle, originally built in 1172.
At 2:00 pm you will tour the city with a local guide taking in the elegant Georgian squares, public buildings and many monuments amongst them the Famine Memorial. You will visit Glasnevin Museum, Ireland’s national necropolis, which features a number of famous people from modern Irish history and is the final resting place of luminaries such as Daniel O’Connell, Michael Collins, Charles Stewart Parnell, Brendan Behan and a host of prominent people. Afterwards enjoy a welcome drink with your tour director followed by dinner in your lovely hotel. (D)
Day 2: Ulster American Folk Park & Donegal Castle
In the morning, your tour begins in earnest with a drive through the heartland of Ireland to visit the Ulster American Folk Park near Omagh. Here you will see cozy cottages showing a life gone by in rural Ireland . After that drive up through the central lakeland region of Ireland to Donegal town in the Northwest for a tour of Donegal Castle. Built by the O’Donnell chieftain in the 15th century, the castle was expanded in the 17th century and today is furnished throughout offering a view of ancient times. Afterwards you will check in to your nearby hotel. (B, D)
Day 3: Slieve League & Glengesh Pass
After breakfast you will head to the fishing port of Killybegs before going on to Teelin to view the Slieve League sea cliffs, whose highest point reaches 1,972 feet high making them the highest cliffs in Europe. Take a moment to fully enjoy the breathtaking vistas as they drop to the wild Atlantic waves below. Whilst in the area you can sample home-baked scones with coffee or tea locally, before continuing to Malinbeg for more great views before passing through the majestic Glengesh Pass. On to Ardara you will visit Triona Design and witness demonstrations of spinning, weaving and knitting. Later on enjoy your deserved free time wandering around Donegal town before returning to your hotel. (B, D)
Day 4: Belleek &Lissadell House
On day four you will visit the Belleek Pottery Factory home of the world-famous fine china where you will see first-hand how the local craftspeople shape and decorate clay. Later pause at Drumcliffe Churchyard to view the grave of W. B. Yeats, Irelands most famous Nobel prize-winning poet, whose many poems were based on the delightful countryside of this area of Sligo his home. Visit Lissadell House a magnificent country estate, which was built in the 1830's for the then Gore-Booth family. This estate was the childhood home of Constance Markievicz, one of the leaders of the 1916 rising. Next you drive to Galway where you will check in to your hotel. (B, D)
Day 5: Connemara Life & Dan O'Hara's Farm
Today you have a chance to explore the scenic Connemara region and admire the constantly-changing cloud formations which give granite hills, sparkling lakes and peat bogs an extra dimension. Stop at the Connemara Celtic Crystal Factory, which is famous for creating intricate designs in crystal. Next head to the Connemara Celtic Crystal Factory where you can see craftsmen demonstate fine glass cutting and drive through the picturesque countryside before visiting Dan O' Hara's Homestead. See traditional methods of Irish farming as well as Connemara ponies and have a light lunch. Return to Galway where you can enjoy some free time before dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Cliffs of Moher & Foynes Flying Boat Museum
Leaving your base in Galway you will travel around Galway Bay and down to Clare to view the Cliffs of Moher, which is an impressive 700ft tall wall of rock that plunges to the Atlantic Ocean. Continue to Bunratty for a brief stop at Durty Nelly’s Pub or the Bunratty Woollen Mills. Afterwards you will drive through Limerick and along the Shannon Estuary before a visit to the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. Here this museum highlights the early days of air travel, during the 1930’s and early 1940’s. Onwards on your journey south you will arrive in Killarney and check in to your hotel before relaxing for awhile before dinner.
Day 7: Ring of Kerry & Skellig Experience
In Kerry you will take a drive around the famous Ring of Kerry whose every bend along 100 miles of road reveals breath-taking views and sights. On your roadtrip you will meet a local farmer, Brendan Ferris, who will show you a steady fixture of local Irish farm life with a sheepdog demonstration of herding flocks.
Next on the trip you will stop at the tip of the peninsula to see the Skellig Experience, which highlights and explains the history, flora and fauna on the nearby rocky islands. Enjoy a casual lunch before continuing on your scenic drive, Pause at Moll’s Gap for panoramic views over Killarney and its lakes. Back in Killarney for the rest of the day you can enjoy some free time for independent activities and dining out. (B, L)
Day 8: Blarney Castle & Abbey Tavern
Leaving Kerry we next travel through County Cork to Blarney Castle just outside Cork city to climb to the ramparts and kiss the famous Blarney stone. Whilst here you can visit the Blarney Woollen Mills where many top quality Irish-made products are all gathered under one roof. From cork you will drive north to Tipperary and stop at the stately Rock of Cashel, a limestone outcrop with picturesque ruins before continuing onto Dublin. In the evening head to the Abbey Tavern for some Irish cuisine as well as a lively session of traditional songs. (B, D)
Day 9: Extra Day in Dublin
Upon arriving back at Dublin, you are free on the last day of your tour to do as you please. You can explore the many delights of the capital city at your own pace with an independent Dublin open-top bus tour pass (valid for 48 hours) with a visit to Guinness Storehouse or General Post Office to sample a complimentary pint or a shot. Day 10: Depart for Home
Today it is homeward bound, take a taxi transfer to Dublin Airport, using the company specified in your final documents and the taxi voucher. (B)
