A graceful stately home, the Cahernane is brimming with historic character, tucked away in secluded grounds bordering the Killarney National Park, close to the town of Killarney.

The approach to the Cahernane along the long private avenue is lined with tall trees, giving an impression of the tranquil country elegance of the hotel itself. Cahernane House was built around 1877 and was home for five generations of the Herbert Family who were related to the Earls of Pembroke, owners of the Muckross Estate. Cahernane House is an elegant Jacobean styled manor house of the Victorian era, similar in architectural style to Muckross House, with a modern but sympathetically styled extension.

Inside the Cahernane's grand and comfortable public areas are filled fine antique furnishings and original features. The reception area is filled with warmth and character from its intricately carved oak fireplace, while nooks and crannies are highlighted with charming little antiquities.

Each of the guest rooms have been tastefully furnished and are beautifully appointed. Those in the modern section have a slightly more modern appearance and benefit from extra space and more up to date facilities including some with Jacuzzis and private balconies. While those within the original house are full of character and old world charm, fitted with elegant antique furnishings and luxurious bathrooms.

The Cahernane's restaurant, the Herbert Room offers award-winning cuisine from a daily-prepared menu using the very finest of fresh local produce, blending Irish tradition with continental imagination. This is complemented by a wide selection from the impressive wine cellar, which forms an attractive backdrop to the atmospheric cellar bar.

As well as awards for its food, the Cahernane has also rightly won awards for its Hospitality and Comfort, and staff are very courteous, professional and friendly.

Cahernane House is located just a short walk from the centre of Killarney, but far enough away to escape to the tranquillity of the national park. While for golfers, the Cahernane is well placed for golfing at Killarney and Ballybunion.
