Ireland's Blue Flag Beaches

Ireland's Blue Flag Beaches

Irish BeachesBlue Flag Beaches in Ireland

Ireland is well known for its beautiful scenery, friendly people and rich culture. Ireland is also known for its beaches with wild and rugged coastline. Ireland has a lot of blue flag beaches and they are the cleanest and clearest in Europe. A blue flag beach can be awarded each year if it meets high standards for water quality, environmental management and facilities. Ireland has a lot of Blue Flag Beaches along the coast which vary from long sandy beaches to small rocky beaches.

You can find here the list of all the Irish Beaches.

What is Blue Flag Beach concept?

The blue flag is a sustainable tourism project which is primarily focused on the protection and improvement of water quality in some of the most popular beach destinations in the world. The Blue Flag beaches are recognised all around the world as a symbol that the beach is safe to swim at. Blue Flags also mean that the environment is well looked after, there's plenty of opportunities to enjoy activities such as walking, cycling, fishing and bird watching.

The Blue Flag Organisation is an international body aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development of areas of natural beauty. The environmental organisations that look after Ireland's beaches are An Taisce (in the Republic of Ireland) and Encams (in Northern Ireland). Both have kindly produced for Discovering Ireland Vacation, a list of Blue Flag Beaches & Marinas throughout the island of Ireland.
